Break out the barbies folks; temperatures could exceed 30 degrees next week

Better enjoy it while it lasts…

Better enjoy it while it lasts…

The weather Gods have teased with us with pockets of nice weather before returning to more traditional, miserable conditions so far this summer, but it looks as if we’re in for an extended spell of glorious sunshine next week.

We’ll believe it when we see it, of course, but the folks at Exacta Weather, who did, to be fair to them, predict the uncharacteristically brilliant summer last year, reckon Ireland is going to be transformed into something like the Costa del Sol next week and will be hotter than the likes of Spain, Portugal and Italy, if only for a fleeting few days.

Speaking to the Metro, James Madden, a meteorologist with Exacta Weather, said: “Next week is likely to see high pressure becoming firmly lodged across the country from parts of the far north to parts of the far south. This will result in an extensive period of exceptionally warm and even hotter weather, making temperatures in Ireland hotter than those of our European counterparts, like Spain, Portugal and France, within this period.

“Temperatures are likely to skyrocket and become more widespread than what we will experience over the next few days and into this weekend. Many parts of the country can expect to see prolonged periods of glorious sunshine and maximum temperatures ranging into the mid to high-20s. It is also plausible that temperatures could exceed 30C in a number of places within this period.”

Unfortunately, the balmy temperatures aren’t likely to last for too long and we can expect a return to boring normality before we know it, but along with the World Cup starting today, news of the smashing spell of weather coming our way next week has already brightened Thursday considerably.

We can hear the sound of ice cream vans already.
