Christmas Day weather set to be very unseasonal, with one ray of hope…

Carl Kinsella

Are you dreaming of a white Christmas?

According to Met Éireann, the chances are that you’re not going to get one. In fact, according to the most recent update to their forecast, it’s likely to be unseasonably mild on Christmas Eve and Christmas Day this year.

Actually, in Irish terms, the prospective temperatures being reported are almost warm.

There will be a bit of rain on December 24, and “many other areas will stay largely dry but much like recent days fairly cloudy too. Highest temperatures 10 to 12 degrees Celsius.”

Met Éireann has warned to expect heavy rain and some spot flooding on Christmas Day, but has said that by the afternoon the weather will be mild once more — again with highs of 8 to 12 degrees.

For those of you dreaming of a Christmas Day snowball fight, there is a vague hope that you’ll get your wish, but it’s the definition of clutching at straws. Met Éireann has predicted “scattered showers and the odd wintry one possible,” meaning snow or hail, but we’ll believe that when we see it.
