A quarter of a million quid is worth getting your hands dirty for.
A Wicklow couple claimed €250,000 in winnings from the National Lottery after finding the lucky ticket in a bin at their home.
Like many people would do when assuming they hadn’t won, the couple in question – who wish to remain private – discarded their ticket in the bin following Saturday’s draw.
They didn’t think to look for it again until Monday, when they heard that the winning ticket had been purchased in Roundwood.
Luckily for them, they hadn’t emptied the bin and managed to find the Lotto Plus 2 ticket, which they presented, tea stains and all, to the National Lottery this week.

“We knew that we had a couple of numbers in one of the draws, so there was a niggling doubt about the ticket,” one member of the couple is quoted as saying on UTV.ie.
“I got a print out of the results from the newsagent and when I got home, I emptied the bin in the kitchen and found the ticket under all the rubbish from the past two days. We could not believe our luck when the numbers matched up!”
The couple plan on having a having a “small party” with friends and family to celebrate the winnings; no doubt they’ll have tidied up the rest of the contents of the bin beforehand.
