Temperatures are set to plummet to as low as -3 C tonight as the chill sets in around the country bringing with it frost, ice and dangerous road conditions.
Met Éireann has warned that there will be widespread sharp to severe frost under clear skies.
Western Coastal areas should avoid the worst of the cold with air temperatures remaining a few degrees above zero but the rest of the country will face air temperatures of between 0 and -3 C.
Road users should be wary of icy roads as Met Éireann have warned ice could form on untreated roads and paths and there is also a risk of patches of freezing fog.
Mostly dry with good sunshine in many places for the afternoon. Highs 6-9C. Frost will set in quickly after dark.
