Here’s what the weather is set to be like today

Paul Moore

After the snow, here’s what’s coming on the weather front…

status yellow snow-ice warning for all of Ireland expired at 8am on Monday morning.

The conditions led to icy roads around Carlow Town, Naas, Portlaoise, Tullamore, Mullingar, Thurles and Wicklow Town on Monday morning and motorists have been urged to use caution when behind the wheel.

However, there’s some good news on the horizon because it appears that these snowy conditions are set to pass, according to Met Éireann.

To begin with, Monday morning will see some frost, fog and lying snow.

However, the weather is set to improve as the day develops with sunny spells developing in eastern areas.

Sadly, there’s also going to be some occasional heavy rain and hail showers in western counties too. These conditions are set to become widespread during the morning with some snow on higher ground in the west and north with isolated thunderstorms.

As for Monday night, breezy conditions and showers are set to develop, mainly in Connacht, Ulster and north Leinster with longer spells of rain and some wintry falls on higher ground expected. These showers will be well scattered in more southern counties.

Monday night is also set to be a chilly one, with overnight lows of 1 to 4 degrees celsius and frost developing in places.

All things considered, Monday is set to be an improvement on the recent conditions.
